Back in Calamba, Rizal practices medicine and treats his mother’s eyes. Beyond the family home, tenant farmers face mounting hardship. The governor-general assigns Lieutenant Andrade to accompany him, and the comic dramatizes their encounter with a desperate farmer. Rizal sees how injustice pushes people toward violence. At the end of the volume, he is ordered to leave the country again.
