José Rizal Manga · Volume 08: The final night
Written by Takahiro Matsui · Illustrated by Ryo Konno · TORICO
In this volume
Imprisoned at Fort Santiago and facing execution, Rizal reflects on the unrest beyond the walls. He meets his mother and Josephine Bracken. In the comic, he entrusts Josephine with an object holding something important; historically, the farewell poem was hidden in an alcohol stove given to his sister Trinidad. He asks that Paciano care for their parents. The volume contrasts intimate farewells with the hostility outside and brings the story to the threshold of the execution first shown in volume one.
This synopsis describes the manga’s dramatization. Illustrated dialogue and scenes are not historical quotations.
